Barbara B. Heerema, born in North Carolina, has lived in South Florida since the age of 9. She and her husband, Arie, raised 3 children there. Living an ordinary life with extraordinary sensitivity, Barbara entwined the stories of her life with the lessons of faith she was learning into books of prose and prayer-poems. She currently lives in Plantation, Florida.
One of Barbara’s writing teachers described her as a “chatty writer”. Indeed, that is part of her charm – her informal style is relaxing, easy to read. By sharing her stories of hope and faith, written in a conversational manner, Barbara hopes to inspire others to greater faith and ministry.
The Because You Listen Lord… volumes 1 and 2 are not religious books, or necessarily Christian books or poetry. Written in the style of Biblical Psalms, they display a range of emotions from despair to joy, as Barbara sought guidance and inspiration from God about her struggles. It is because they are so easy to understand, because they are such common stories of our human existence, that they have found places in Bible studies and personal devotions. One evangelical pastor has included them in his services alongside Bible verses. Readers find them comforting, inspiring them to greater spiritual growth, and give them as gifts to others with shared experiences.
Book 3 of the series is presently being prepared for printing by Winsum Press. The books are being made available in PDF and other eBook formats, as well as the familiar soft cover book. Books for the blind are being explored (Talking Books.)
